The church windows, fitted with its elaborate low-tech metal security grill reflect the village and its environs.
 During occupation by various foreign powers and four centuries of Ottoman domination, the Greek Orthodox church remained the central symbol and protector of Greek cultural identity. Today, even Greeks who profess to be atheists or communists will join in during the main events of the church's calendar. Many will also insist that their families' births, marriages and funerals have the blessing of priests.
