People on My Favourite Planet
 |
This is a new section of My Favourite Planet, designed to contain illustrated biographical profiles of people mentioned in the articles and galleries on this website. We will be adding information to this section as the website grows.

The first People article is a biographical profile of the French 19th century archaeologist, politician and author Charles Ernest Beulé. Among his many achievements, Beulè excavated the entrance to the Athens Acropolis in 1852-3 and discovered the significance of the Roman Beulé Gate, thus becoming the only archaeologist after whom an ancient monument in the Greek capital is named.
We were disappointed that we could not find a serious biography of a person who during his lifetime was so honoured and respected, and whom The New York Times called "an archaeologist of high repute". So, we have collected as much information as we can about him, which is here presented for the first time in one place on the internet.
If you have any further information about Beulé, we would be happy to hear from you. Please get in contact.
