The propylon of the Sanctuary of Athena Nikephoros from the Pergamon Acropolis. Pergamon Museum, Berlin at My Favourite Planet

Detail of the propylon of the Sanctuary of Athena Nikephoros from Pergamon. Pergamon Museum, Berlin.
The ground floor of the two-storey propylon of the Sanctuary of Athena Polias Nikephoros (Ἀθηνᾶ Πολιάς Νικηφόρος, Athena of the City, Bringer of Victory) had a porch of four Doric columns (tetrastyle) on the ground floor, above which was a dedicatory inscription by Eumenes II to Athena Nikephoros:

ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΕΥΜΕΝΗΣ ΑΘΗΝΑΙ ΝΙΚΗΦΟΡΩΙ

(Basileus Eumenes Athinai Nikeforoi)

King Eumenes to Athena Nikophoros

The upper storey was a balcony with four Ionic columns and fronted by a military frieze depicting armour and weapons.

The propylon has been restored and reconstructed
in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin. See previous page.
