If you are lucky enough to have your own boat, or are able to charter one, the waters and coast around Kastellorizo and Lycia are enchanting and fascinating. The rugged limestone cliffs, interspersed with beaches, coves, caves, islands and islets; the rich marine life, including a variety of fish, octopuses and other submarine creatures. Dolphins, monk seals and loggerhead turtles (carreta carreta) also haunt these parts. Ancient Lycian buildings and monuments can be seen right on the water's edge. Add to this the clarity of the Mediterranean light and the colours of the sea itself and the whole area makes for exhilarating sailing, swimming, snorkeling, diving... or just lounging around on deck.
We will be publishing the My Favourite Planet guide to Lycia in the near future. Meanwhile, if you have any information or interesting tales about sailing in the Mediterranean, please get in contact.
See our maps showing the locations of the Blue Grotto (or Blue Cave) and the nearby islets of Stroggyli and Ro on Kastellorizo page 9: maps of Kastellorizo.
